Privacy Policy

In short: most learning progress stays on your device. Account, social, reel-activity, referral, and subscription data use our backend. Contact names and phone numbers are not uploaded.

Information on your device

Scrollingua stores learning choices and progress locally, including your language, level, goal, preferences, streaks, lesson progress, local word-bank entries, reviews, practice phrases, search history, and watch history. These records do not currently sync automatically to another device.

Account and backend information

We use Supabase for authentication and anonymous sessions. If you create an account, we may store your email or provider identifier, public profile, avatar, friendships, direct messages, comments, blocks, reports, invite code, referral records, liked and saved reels, selected vocabulary saved from reels, reel usage events, entitlement status, push registrations, notification preferences, and notification delivery records.

When an operating-system device identifier is available during invite redemption, our server stores only a keyed one-way digest. We use it to limit repeat referral rewards and do not store the raw identifier for this purpose.

Contacts and invitations

If you choose “Invite from contacts,” the app requests contact permission to display names and phone numbers on your device and address a prewritten SMS. Scrollingua does not upload your address book, match phone numbers to accounts, or send messages automatically. You decide whether to tap Send in your messaging app.

Reels, learning services, and media

We may process clip identifiers, watch duration, likes, saves, shares, comments, word taps, captions, translations, and difficulty signals to deliver the feed, enforce limits, and improve ranking. Video delivery providers such as Bunny may receive network and device information needed to stream media.

If optional pronunciation or scanning features are enabled, audio or recognized text and relevant learning context may be sent through our backend to the configured speech, OCR, or translation provider. On-device operations stay on your device unless the feature explains otherwise.

Purchases, analytics, and attribution

Apple, Google, and RevenueCat may process product, transaction, trial, renewal, expiration, account, and device information needed to sell and restore subscriptions. We do not receive your full payment-card number.

If product analytics or Meta attribution is configured, the app may send account or anonymous identifiers, app interactions, campaign information, and purchase-funnel events. iOS advertiser tracking is subject to App Tracking Transparency and your device choices. We do not sell personal information.

Notifications

Learning reminders can include practice, streak, and review prompts scheduled on your device. Friend and message alerts can include friend requests and acceptances, direct messages, shared reels, and referral rewards. You can control those two categories separately in Scrollingua and disable all notifications in device settings.

For remote alerts, we may process an Expo push token, a random app-installation identifier, platform, app version, device name when available, and delivery status or provider ticket/receipt information. Supabase and Expo notification services help deliver alerts through Apple Push Notification service or Firebase Cloud Messaging.

Social alerts may show another user’s display name, but we do not put the text of a private direct message in a remote notification. Alerts may appear on your lock screen or connected devices depending on your operating-system settings.

How we use and disclose information

We use information to operate and personalize Scrollingua, deliver learning and social features, meter free usage, manage purchases and referrals, prevent fraud and abuse, investigate reports, provide support, and comply with law. We disclose information only to users you interact with, service providers needed for these purposes, marketplaces and platform services you choose to use, professional advisers or authorities where legally required, or with your direction.

Retention and account deletion

We retain server information while reasonably needed to provide the service, protect users, prevent abuse, satisfy legal obligations, and maintain necessary business records. Limited records may remain temporarily in backups or security logs.

You can delete your account in Scrollingua under Settings → Delete account. This deletes your Scrollingua account, server-backed account data, RevenueCat customer record, uploaded avatar, and learner-owned local data. Deleting the account does not cancel a marketplace subscription; manage that separately through Apple or Google.

Your choices and rights

You can manage learning reminders and friend/message alerts separately in Scrollingua; manage contacts, microphone, notifications, tracking, and other permissions in device settings; block another user from their profile or conversation; report content or users from comments and messages; and contact us to request access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, or objection where applicable law provides those rights.

Children and international use

Scrollingua is not directed to children under 13. Information may be processed in the United States and other locations where our providers operate.
